Frequently Asked Questions
Is my PDF file safe?
Yes, absolutely! All PDF processing happens directly in your browser. Your files never leave your device and are not uploaded to any server. We use PDF-LIB library to handle all operations locally, ensuring complete privacy and security for your documents.
What is the maximum file size?
You can split PDF files up to 50MB. Larger files might cause browser performance issues. If you have a larger PDF, consider using our PDF Compressor tool first to reduce the file size.
Which browsers are supported?
This tool works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. For best performance, ensure you’re using the latest version of your browser. JavaScript must be enabled for the tool to function properly.
Can I split password-protected PDFs?
No, this tool cannot process password-protected or encrypted PDF files. You’ll need to remove the password protection first using a PDF password remover tool before splitting. We recommend using our PDF Password Protection tool for managing PDF security.
What happens to the original PDF file?
The original PDF file remains untouched on your device. Only copies of the selected pages are created. The tool works with a temporary copy in your browser’s memory, which is cleared when you close the tab or refresh the page.
Can I split multiple PDFs at once?
Currently, this tool processes one PDF file at a time. If you need to split multiple PDFs, you’ll need to process them one by one. For batch processing, consider using desktop PDF software or check out our PDF Merge tool for combining multiple PDFs.
Why is my split PDF larger than the original?
Sometimes split PDFs can be slightly larger due to how PDF compression works. Each split PDF contains its own header information and metadata. For significant size reduction, consider using our PDF Compressor tool after splitting.
Is there a limit to the number of pages I can split?
There’s no hard limit, but extremely large PDFs (thousands of pages) might cause browser memory issues. For best performance, we recommend splitting PDFs with up to 500 pages at a time. If you have larger documents, consider splitting them in batches.
